Movie Madness Monday 151: Whatever edition

Nothing like taking a classic and giving it a little re-do. I actually saw the same sagging in the hallway today that was dissed in this film 15 years ago, and I knew some things never change.

Including some people's underwear.

So put your quotes in the comment section!

"I joined this program and there's steps. There's... uh..."
"Twelve?"
"Yeah, how'd you know?"
"Wild guess."

"Hey, in some parts of the universe, maybe not in contempo-casual, but in some parts, it's considered cool to know what's going on in the world."
"Thank you Josh. I SO need lessons from you on how to be cool. Tell me the part about Kenny G again?"

"So like, right now for example. The Haitians need to come to America. But some people are all, "What about the strain on our resources?" Well it's like when I had this garden party for my father's birthday, right? I put R.S.V.P. 'cause it was a sit-down dinner. But some people came that like did not R.S.V.P. I was like totally buggin'. I had to haul ass to the kitchen, redistribute the food, and squish in extra place settings. But by the end of the day it was, like, the more the merrier. And so if the government could just get to the kitchen, rearrange some things, we could certainly party with the Haitians. And in conclusion may I please remind you it does not say R.S.V.P. on the Statue of Liberty. Thank you very much."

"You know, If I ever saw you do anything that wasn't ninety percent selfish, I'd die of shock."
"Oh, that'd be reason enough for me."

"Your man Christian is a cake boy!"
"A WHAT?"
"He's a disco-dancing, Oscar-Wilde-reading, Streisand-ticket-holding friend-of-Dorothy, know what I'm saying?"

"Hey, you. Anything happens to my daughter, I got a .45 and a shovel. I doubt anybody would miss you."

Movie Madness Monday 150:

Welcome to MMM 150, where we try to make you think where you've heard that line before, and then expect you to come up with more quotes in the comments section from the same film. This week, this is in honor of more mayhem at the workplace. Enjoy!

"First off, let me just add another congratulations to Evan Backstabber - pardon me, Bastard. Baxter, rather. It is good to see what someone with real talent can do when great opportunities are given to them instead of me."

"So God is picking on you?"
"No, he's ignoring me completely!"

"So tell us mama, why make Buffalo's biggest cookie?"
"So all the children in the neighborhood will be happy?"
"And isn't it nice to see all their smiling faces?"
"I work in back. I see no smiles."

"I did the same thing to Gandhi, he didn't eat for three weeks."

"A single mom who's working two jobs, and still finds time to take her son to soccer practice, that's a miracle. A teenager who says "no" to drugs and "yes" to an education, that's a miracle. People want me to do everything for them. What they don't realize is THEY have the power. You want to see a miracle, son? BE the miracle."

"I guess that's how life is, isn't it? Some people are drenched, freezing to death, on a stupid boat, with a stupid hat, while others are in a comfy news studio, suckin' up all the glory. Oh, well. No big deal."

"I've got a very rare blood type. I'm AB positive."
"Well, I'm IB positive. I be positive they ain't touching me with no needle."

Movie Madness Monday 149: Leap of Faith edition

On this glorious Easter Monday, let us celebrate a film about love and family and faith, as well as always searching for knowledge, especially vital to us as teachers. Put your quotes in the comment section!

"My son, we're pilgrims in an unholy land."

"I was a wonderful father."
"Yeah, how?"
"Did I ever tell you to eat up, go to bed, wash your ears, do your homework? No, I respected your privacy and I taught you self-reliance."
"What you taught me is that I was less important to you than people that have been dead for several hundred years and in other countries, and I learned it so well, that we've hardly spoken for 20 years."

"'X' never, EVER marks the spot."

"Is there anyone here who speaks English? Or maybe even ancient Greek?"

"He chose... poorly."

"The Name of God..."
"The Name of God... Jehovah."
"But in the Latin alphabet, 'Jehovah' begins with an 'I'."

"Oh, rats."

Movie Madness Monday 148: Love Your Neighbor edition

Welcome to the Holy Week/Passover edition of Movie Madness Monday, the movie quote trivia game. Let's revisit a movie that truly embodies the command to love your neighbor. Put your quotes in the comment section!

"That boy is your company! And if he wants to eat up that tablecloth, you let him, you hear? And if you can't act fit to eat like folks, you can just set here and eat in the kitchen!"

"Neighbors bring food with death, and flowers with sickness, and little things in between."

"I don't know if it will help saying this to you... some men in this world are born to do our unpleasant jobs for us... your father is one of them."

"There's a lot of ugly things in this world, son. I wish I could keep 'em all away from you. That's never possible."

"I'm little but I'm old."

"Good Afternoon Miss Dubose... My, you look like a picture this afternoon."

Movie Madness Monday 147: Sarah Palin accent edition

As we shiver away our spring break, here's a great Coen Brothers film to take our mind off of things. Put your quotes in the comment section!

"So that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money. There's more to life than a little money, you know. Dontcha know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day. Well. I just don't understand it."

"Awww, hon, ya got Arby's all over me."

"It's just a three-cent stamp."
"It's terrific."
"Hautman's blue-winged teal got the 29-cent. People don't much use the three-cent."
"Oh, for Pete's sake. Of course they do. Whenever they raise the postage, people need the little stamps."

"So, uh, you married old Norm son-of-a-Gunderson?"

"You betcha."

Movie Madness Monday 146: We'll Always Have Paris edition

Welcome back to MMM, the movie quote trivia game. I'm going through a classic movie phase, and I'm reading classic novels I've told myself I haven't had time to read.

This movie is an absolute MUST. LOVE IT! Put your quotes in the comments section!

"You give him credit for too much cleverness. My impression was that he's just another blundering American."
"You mustn't underestimate American blundering. I was with them when they "blundered" into Berlin in 1918."

"I don't mind a parasite. I object to a cut-rate one."

"What is your nationality?"
"I'm a drunkard."
"That makes Rick a citizen of the world."

"You might as well question why we breathe. If we stop breathing, we'll die. If we stop fighting our enemies, the world will die."
"Well, what of it? It'll be out of its misery."

"Realizing the importance of the case, my men are rounding up twice the usual number of suspects."

"In 1935, you ran guns to Ethiopia. In 1936, you fought in Spain, on the Loyalist side."
"And got well paid for it on both occasions."
"The winning side would have paid you MUCH better!"

"There are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn't advise you to try to invade."

Movie Madness Monday 145: babysitter sanity edition

For some reason blogger claimed it didn't know me anymore-- like that former boyfriend when you see him at the mall and his eyes slide past you and fixate on the window behind you-- even if it's for a maternity shop.

So now that I at least got on here now, we will continue our theme for today. This man helped me keep hundreds of kids quiet while I watched them for two bucks an hour. So put your quotes in the comment section!

"There aren't people that small."

"In my world everyone is a pony, and they all eat rainbows, and poop butterflies!"

"That single "Hellow" traveled all the way down to the speck, to the flowers,
to the fount of the small town."

"This entire jungle is a house of death!"

"I will make monkeys of these monkeys, for it is their destiny!"

"Mom, Mom! Please, you are so weird, don't do this to me!"

Movie Madness Monday 144: Joy and sorrow edition

This week's Movie Madness Monday comes on the heels of a shocking death of a friend who loved to laugh, and I know she loved this movie. So put your quotes in the comments section while I try to laugh through my tears.

"Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let the aeroplanes circle, moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message 'He is Dead'.
Put crepe bows 'round the white necks of the public doves,
Let traffic policemen wear black, cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East, and West.
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong."

"I would just like to say this. I am, as ever, in bewildered awe of anyone who makes this kind of commitment that Angus and Laura have made today. I know I couldn't do it and I think it's wonderful they can. So, back to Angus and those sheep."

"How do you do, my name is Charles."
"Don't be ridiculous, Charles died 20 years ago!"
"Must be a different Charles, I think."
"Are you telling me I don't know my own brother!"
"No, no...."

"I always just hoped that, that I'd meet some nice friendly girl, like the look of her, hope the look of me didn't make her physically sick, then pop the question and... um... settle down and be happy. It worked for my parents. Well, apart from the divorce and all that!”

"Where's Gareth?"
"Torturing Americans."
"How thoughtful of him."

"In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spigot. Err--Spirit!"

"At my signal, unleash hell."

"What we do in life echoes in eternity."

"He will bring them death, and they will love him for it."

"Those giraffes you sold me, they won't mate. They just walk around, eating, and not mating. You sold me... queer giraffes. I want my money back."

Movie Madness Monday 141: Redundancy over and over edition

Welcome to February, MMMers! The doldrums of sunlight deprivation have becalmed what little mental capacity I may have once had, and I long for warmth and bright blue skies.
So put your quotes from this movie in the comment section!

"What if there were no tomorrow?"

"For your information, Hairdo, there is a major network interested in me."

"Somebody asked me today, 'Phil, if you could be anywhere, where would you like to be?' I said to him, 'Probably right here.' Elko, Nevada. Our nation's high at 79 today. In California, they'll have warm weather tomorrow... gang wars and some very overpriced real estate. Up in the Pacific Northwest, they'll have some very tall trees."

"People like blood sausage too. People are morons."

"Did you sleep okay without me? You tossed and turned, didn't you?"
(Disgusted) "You're incredible."
"Who told you?"

"This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off waiting to worship a rat. What a hype."

"Okay, campers, rise and shine. Don't forget your booties because it's COLD out there today!"
"It's COLD out there every day. What is this, Miami Beach?"

"I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl. We ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. THAT was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get THAT day?"

"Three hundred and thirty-nine dollars and eighty-eight cents!"

It's Monday, some of us are feeling beat up and beat down, so Ms. Cornelius is going to refer to herself in the third person. Like the Queen. Or Richard Nixon. Consider those two things together while I supply you with a new edition of MMM. Remember, place your quotes from the movie in the comments section. Love ya!

"I have it all figured out. It's an eighteen hour trip which breaks down into six shifts of three hours each or alternatively we could break it down by mileage."

"The story of my life isn't even going to get us out of Chicago I mean nothing's happened to me yet. That's why I'm going to New York."
"So something can happen to you?"
"Yes."
"Like what?"
"I can go into journalism school to become a reporter."
"So you can write about things that happen to other people."
"That's one way to look at it."
"Suppose nothing happens to you. Suppose you lived out your whole life and nothing happens you never meet anybody you never become anything and finally you die in one of those New York deaths which nobody notices for two weeks until the smell drifts into the hallway."

"Don't you have a dark side? No you're probably one of those cheerful people who dots their eyes with little hearts."

"I don't want to spend the rest of my life in Casablanca married to a man who runs a bar. I probably sound very snobbish to you but I don't."
"You'd rather be in a passionless marriage."
"And be the first lady of Czechoslovakia."
"Than live with the man you've had the greatest sex of you life with, and just because he owns a bar and that is all he does."
"Yes. And so had any woman in her right mind-- women are very practical, even Ingrid Bergman-- which is why she gets on the plane at the end of the movie."

"We are just going to be friends, ok?
"Great! Friends! It's the best thing."
[Pause]
"You realise of course that we can never be friends."
"Why not?"
"What I'm saying is... and this is not a come-on in any way, shape or form, is that men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way."

"I use them for smuggling. I never thought I'd be smuggling myself in them. This is ridiculous."

There was once a game we played around here called Movie Madness Monday. It was a movie quote trivia game. I chose a few starter quotes, and then readers commented by adding their own quotes. I've decided it's way too gloomy out, and so I need a distraction. So here we go! Let's see if anyone will play!

"I was most unfortunate in my youth to come across a vomit-flavored one, and since then I'm afraid I've lost my liking for them. But, I think I could be safe with a nice toffee." (Pause) "Alas! Earwax!"

"A pity they let the old punishments die. Was a time detention would find you hanging by your thumbs in the dungeons. God, I miss the screaming...."

"Daddy's gone mad, hasn't he?"

"Isn't he beautiful? Oh, bless him! Look! He knows his mummy! Hallo, Norbert!"

"Five points will be awarded to each of you.... for sheer dumb luck!"

"Me? Books and cleverness. There are more important things: friendship and bravery."

"Thirty-six?! But last year last year I had thirty-seven!"

"I'll count three, and if you're not out of the house by then, I'll loose the dogs on you!"

"Hello, handsome, is that a ten-gallon hat or are you just enjoying the show?"

"Where's my froggy?"

"Stampeding cattle."
"That's not much of a crime."
"Through the Vatican?"
"Kinky. Sign here."

"Now, I suppose you're all wondering just what in the heck you're doing out here in the middle of a prairie in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night."
"You bet your ass."
"I'm hip."

"What do you want me to do, sir?"
"I want you to round up every vicious criminal and gunslinger in the west. Here is a surprise reappearance of Movie Madness Monday, the movie quote trivia game. This is one of my favorites of all time because, every year, it feels so perfect for how I am feeling. So put your quotes in the comments section!

"People like it!"
"People like blood sausage, too. People are morons."

"This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather."

"This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off waiting to worship a rat. What a hype. Well, it used to mean something in this town. They used to pull the hog out, and they used to eat it. You're hypocrites, all of you! You have a problem with what I'm saying, Larry? Untie your tongue, and you come out here and talk, huh? Am I upsetting you, Princess?"

"You're gonna eat steak, you need to get some sharper teeth."

"There is no way this winter is ever going to end, as long as this groundhog keeps seeing his shadow. I don't see any other way out. He's got to be stopped. And I have to stop him."

"I like to say a little prayer and drink to world peace."
"To world peace."
"Amen."

"When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter."

After plowing through Carrie Fisher's bio, which is absolutely a riot, I just had to do this again for MMM-- plus, it centers around New Year's. So put those quotes in the comments section!

"You're right, you're right, I KNOW you're right."

"Everybody thinks they have good taste and a sense of humor but they couldn't possibly all have good taste."

"You only had one date. How do you know it's not going to get worse?"
"How much worse can it get than finishing dinner, having him reach over, pull a hair out of my head and start flossing with it at the table?"

"You know, I'm so glad I never got involved with you. I just would have ended up being some woman you had to get up out of bed and leave at 3:00 in the morning and go clean your andirons, and you don't even have a fireplace, not that I would know this."

"You are a human affront to all women and I am a woman."

"I said we could just be friends. And this part I can remember he said that men and women could never really be friends. Do you think that's true?"
"No."
"Do you have any women friends, just friends?"
"No. But I will get one if it is important to you."

"Joe and I broke up."

"When?"

Welcome to an end of advent edition of MMM, the movie quote trivia game. This week's entry was judged a failure when first released but now is recognized as a holiday classic. So put your quotes in the comments section, and Merry Christmas!

"Do you know how long it takes a working man to save five thousand dollars? Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about... they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath? Anyway, my father didn't think so. People were human beings to him. But to you, a warped, frustrated old man, they're cattle. Well, in my book he died a much richer man than you'll ever be!"

"No man is a failure who has friends."

"He's making violent love to me, mother!"

"I like him."
"You like every boy."

Movie Madness Monday 132: Monday at 8/7 central edition

Let's all watch it together!!!!!!!!! You HAVE to watch the original to truly understand the mastery of Chuck Jones. Now, the Anglican in me must remind you that we actually are in Advent-- but hey, I don't make the TV schedule. And this teaches a wonderful message about love, which is really what Christmas is all about.

Put your quotes from this classic in the comments section!

"As he grabbed the tree, as he started to shove, he heard a small sound like the coo of a dove."

"He puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore."

"All I need is a reindeer."

"One thing I can't stand is the noise, noise, noise, noise!"

"Christmas Day is in our grasp
So long as we have hands to clasp.
Christmas Day will always be
Just as long as we have we.
Welcome Christmas while we stand,
Heart to heart and hand in hand."

And go!
