Belichick and Beals: Separated at birth?

You decide.

Mad Football Schemer

Bad Flashdance Dreamer

Or just two sartorially challenged, misunderstood kids?

Dude, I loved the '80s as much as anyone, but give up the ripped sweatshirt look.

Oh, and too bad about that Super Bowl Thing.

We're Number One! We're Number One!

My beloved alma mater was given the honor of the first football game of the season last Thursday at 6 pm against the University of Louisiana-Monroe, and we won 35-17! It was just wonderful that it was televised on ESPN-2, as well, so that those of us who are Okie-expats actually got to see the game!

Then it occurred to me: for a few minutes, probably from about 9:45 to 10:30, we were the only Division I college football program with a 1-0 record. So that makes us Number One in the nation, which is the first time we could say that since my sophomore year in college, when we were number 16 in the nation. Heady days! I was the girl in the front of the band in the ugly blue polyester flared-leg uniform screaming her head off. You might have seen me. I assure you I am much calmer now.

But we're number one! I wanted to say that while I could!

Go Hurricane!

And by the way, a small note to the TU athletic department: since we're known as the Golden Hurricane, perhaps a bit more gold on the uniform might make some sense. I mean, c'mon, you've got blue and gold.... and red.... and white???????

I'd go with Fluorescent Orange around Dick, Longhorns

Yesterday, the University of Texas Longhorns visited the White House to celebrate their National Championship. Word is that Vice President Cheney was on the premises, hopefully without a shotgun full of buckshot. However, Bevo Boys, just to be on the safe side, I'd dump the burnt orange attire for fluorescent orange, if I were you. Even though I'm an Okie, I still don't want ya to eat lead-- literally.

Meanwhile, I'm idly wondering why the quail were still so low to the ground that people would be firing levelly. I've heard that sometimes, people who run these ranch outings for bigwigs clip the wings of the quail to make them a target less like an F-15 and more like a C-130, speedwise (generations of hunters in my family, y'know). Cheney and crew certainly were sneaking up on their feathered foes, since one of the early stories stated that the hunters had stepped out of a CAR moments before.

Today it was reported that Mr. Whittington had a mild heart attack from one of the pellets lodging near his heart, and the vice president has admitted, four days later, that he was at fault in the incident, since he was the one who pulled the trigger. Let's all hope Mr. Whittington has a speedy recovery.

A fervent prayer

Oh Lord,

I ask your intercession on Saturday, when my beloved Sooners play the minions of Satan Texas Longhorns. It's been a good ride, Lord, the last five or so years, but I am not ready to let go. I cannot wear the Texas Longhorns shirt to school next week. It would cause cellular decomposition equivalent to matter meeting anti-matter. The assistant principal from Texas is savoring the anticipated moment of triumph. I will buy him the barbeque, Lord, but the longhorn shirt! Spare me!

Saturday. The Cotton Bowl. Be there.

Boomer sooner!
