Farewell, Harvey Korman

Some of my fondest memories of childhood involve watching the Carol Burnett Show. There has never been anything to match the incredible talents placed on display each week.

Harvey Korman, straight man and comedic foil par excellence, passed away earlier this week. This is in tribute to him.

Besides his brilliant turn in the spoof of Gone With the Wind, Korman was always trying to smother a laugh as Tim Conway freed his inner comedy psycho, an example of which I give you above. If you want more laughs, check out his brilliant turn as Hedley Lamarr in Blazing Saddles.

You made me laugh, Mr. Korman, even when my life was filled with uncertainty and strain. God bless.

My Harvey Korman memory: on the evening my wife went into labor with our first son, I sat in the most uncomfortable chair imaginable, in an overly-air-conditioned hospital room, watching Blazing Saddles at 3am on A&E. Can't hear him say, "It's HEDley!" without thinking of that night and my son.
God bless, Harvey!

I, too, have lots of fond memories of the Carol Burnett Show. Thanks for this; I'm wishing Mr. Korman godspeed.

That guy was just too funny. There aren't nearly enough people like that, and they're just irreplaceable. Not like politicians, where you cut one head off and another just grows back.

I was a big fan of The Carol Burnett Show. The ensemble cast was fabulous. They never took themselves seriously and seemed to be having so much fun while they were "working."

Blazing Saddles is my favorite movie of all-time. Harvey Korman & Slim Pickins were great as the evil ones.

I grew up on the Carol Burnett show and absolutely loved Harvey Korman. He and Tim Conway would leave me and the entire family in giggles and tears. And who can forget Blazing Saddles???

Friend of ours just retired from 25+ years in the Special Forces. He was over in Iraq last year and the guys got to talking about the movie Blazing Saddles and he about choked when nearly his entire crew had never seen it (too young). He commented that they probably could never get away with making such a politically incorrect movie today and of course the guys all wanted to see it - he had his wife send over a copy and the guys just fell apart laughing all through the movie, once they realized how totally politically incorrect it was - and most of these guys were of every ethnic group other than WASP. He ended up leaving the DVD there as it turned out to be one of the most popular ones they played.
